A vertical section of nitrite and oxygen along 110ºW shows the primary nitrite maximum between 50 and 100 m. A strong secondary nitrite maximum occurs from 23ºN to 15ºN at depths between 150 and 400 m. A strong oxygen minimum occurs in this region with O2 concentrations less than 10 µmol/kg.
