Distribution in ocean
Tellurium has a scavenged type profile
with high concentrations at the surface and a rapid decrease with depth (data).
Speciation
Tellurium is present in seawater in
the +IV and +VI oxidation states. The stable +VI oxidation state is
probably present as Te(OH)60, rather than an oxyanion.
Residence time
The residence time has not been determined. It is likely to be comparable to
that of lead.
Analysis
Tellurium is determined by conversion to the hydride H2Te, followed
by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry.
