5145MtyBay 9/17 to 9/21/2007 Monterey Bay A short test deployment of float 5145 to verify operation of ISUS. The float profiled twice each day for 5 days and was then recovered.

Hawaii Ocean Time series (HOT) station Planned four year deployment to assess long-term ISUS sensor performance. Low nitrate concentrations in surface waters near HOT will allow us to assess sensor drift over years. Float 5145 profiled once per day for the first 7 days and is now profiling every 5 days. The NO3 sensor stopped 9/2010 due to a software problem. The float was recovered 10/31/2011 to recalibrate the sensor.

Long-term measurements of nitrate will allow us to assess changes in NPP over interannual time scales.

Monterey Bay A four day test deployment of float 6401 offshore of Monterey Bay. This is a modified Apex float that is designed to carry more biogeochemical sensors and to make sensor integration much easier. 6401 carries an ISUS nitrate sensor and an Aanderaa oxygen optode.

The ISUS in this system is produced by Satlantic and is the prototype for a commercial design. Note this float has an intermittent connection on the CTD and does not return all of the normal samples. It was recovered to repair the CTD.

7672Hawaii (5903893) Deployed October 2, 2012 Hawaii Ocean Time series (HOT) station This is our first float with a Deep-Sea Durafet pH sensor. The pH sensor was modified from a standard Honeywell Durafet design to be pressure tolerant. This is the first test of a new pH sensor designed to monitor ocean acidity. There is an O2 sensor, but no nitrate sensor on this float.

0069Bermuda (5903890) November 29, 2012 Bermuda This is the original float 5145, which was recovered after a 3 year deployment near Hawaii. It was refurbished and redeployed at BATS.
7550BayofBengal (5903712) December 30, 2012 Bay of Bengal This float was deployed in the Bay of Bengal to provide a comparison to float 6381 in the Arabian Sea. Due to the very low density of surface water in the Bay of Bengal, this float won't profile much deeper than 700 meters.
6881StnP (5903891) Deployed Feb. 12, 2013 Ocean Station Papa at 50 North, 145 West in the Gulf of Alaska Four year deployment at Station Papa. This float has nitrate optics on the top end cap, but not in the pumped flow stream. This is an experiment to see how the flow stream impacts sensor fouling.

It will be recovered and sent to Hawaii for a long term deployment to test sensor performance and integration.

Net production of oxygen in the subtropical ocean. Nature, 451, 323-325). The oxygen data have been quality controlled by adjusting to match Winkler titrations made by HOT personnel on the deployment cruise.
