Jon is a Mechanical Engineer with forty plus years in the Marine Research field. In addition to the projects he initiates and manages, as the Lead engineer and/or project manager, he provides engineering design and analysis for several of the AUV and BUOY platforms here at MBARI. Jon also provides several of the research groups with support on a yearly on-going basis as part of the hardware side of their technical developments.

One of Jon’s primary interests is in new materials and manufacturing technology, and their application to a marine environment. These subjects include the use of casting technologies for pressure case design in both metals and plastics. In addition, using the newly developed “additive manufacturing” techniques and materials and their use in the ocean.

Besides his time here at MBARI as an engineer, Jon’s background includes twenty years of “at sea” experience with the technical side of oceanography as an ocean going technician and field engineer.
