Anik Grearson, is a Graduate Research Assistant in the Biodiversity and Biooptics Lab, beginning her PhD studies through the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department at UC Santa Cruz. After receiving her Master’s degree from Northeastern University, she has spent the last two years working at Harvard University on protein synthesis in octopus. Her diverse skill set includes biochemistry, bioinformatics, microscopy, and scientific diving. Anik will work on an NSF-funded project to study the effects of pressure on the membranes of comb jellies. In addition to lab work and informatics, she will likely do experiments in conjunction with the Aquarium to follow upon the paper by Jacob Winnikoff, et al. that was published last month in Science.
