The Central and Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS) is a collaborative that enables coastal measurements, model forecasts, and integrated products to inform decisions about our regional ocean. We are relied upon regionally and nationally as a trusted source of data, information, and regional ocean expertise.

Focus Areas

  • Long-term measurements of meteorological, and ocean physical, chemical, and biological parameters
  • Publicly accessible data portal – integrated time-series measurements and geospatial data
  • Data assimilating coupled ocean physical-biogeochemical ecosystem models
  • Products to inform policy and decision-making

Core Capabilities

  • Ocean surface circulation measurements using HF radar
  • Shore stations measuring water quality, hydrography and harmful algal blooms
  • Ships/gliders/moorings monitoring offshore subsurface variables
  • Numerical ocean and atmospheric models
  • Data/information products and services
