MBARI makes our images and video available for education and outreach, however, we have limited resources to support the large number of requests we field every day for use of our unique deep-sea imagery. We prioritize projects specifically about MBARI, our research, and our team that align with our strategic education and outreach goals. We do not have capacity to support stock photo or video requests.
Requests are reviewed in the order in which they were submitted. Please do not submit requests by phone or email—additional outreach will not expedite a reply. We try to respond to time-sensitive requests from news media within one business day.
MBARI does not have the staff or infrastructure of a stock service, so we advise a minimum of two weeks for fulfilling photo requests and four weeks for fulfilling video requests.
MBARI reserves the right to charge a licensing fee for use of our images and video. These fees cover the administrative costs associated with photo and video research and management.
If you’re unable to submit a media request form or have any questions, you may email pressroom@mbari.org.
The MBARI pressroom will be closed December 21–January 5. Requests received during our holiday closure will be reviewed when our pressroom reopens on Monday, January 6.
