Accounting Specialist The Accounting Specialist ensures that all material associated with the functions and duties assigned is processed and documented in accordance with federal and state regulations and MBARI policies and procedures. The incumbent must have skills in customer service, communication, automated report generation, and writing procedures. This position must maintain current and accurate desk procedures, utilize the automated systems and reports to maximize accuracy and efficiency, and be able to conduct internal audits or specialized research projects as needed.

Instrumentation / Marine Operations Technician The Instrumentation/Operations Technician is responsible for the operation, integration, maintenance, and calibration of scientific equipment on MBARI oceanographic platforms. Primary responsibilities are to manage and maintain CTD systems for the institute’s core oceanographic platforms. Additionally, the incumbent works with engineers, scientists, vessel crews, and pilots in the development, operation, and maintenance of oceanographic instrumentation.
QMED-Oiler R/VDavid Packard The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is seeking candidates for a QMED-Oiler aboard the state-of-the-art research vessel US R/V David Packard, currently under construction in Spain. After delivery, the ship will be tasked with supporting 5-10 day multi-disciplinary science missions (longer trips are possible). In an average year, the vessel supports about 18-20 science missions per year. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the QMED-Oiler carries out duties as directed at sea and in port to ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the vessel. The successful applicant will be detail oriented and have a willingness and ability to learn new skills.
Assistant Engineer, R/V Rachel Carson Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Engineer provides assistance in the maintenance, efficient operation, and safety of the engine room and all machinery spaces of the research vessel. The individual assists in ensuring operational readiness of all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. The individual supports the safe operation of the vessel as it pertains to the mechanical functions required to perform all normal research operations. Our permanent roles are full time positions that do not offer rotations. Therefore, leave is granted on an ad-hoc basis and positions are backfilled from a relief pool.
President/CEO The President/CEO is the most senior level position at the Institute, overseeing all functions: Marine Operations, Science, Engineering, Information and Technology Dissemination, and the Office of the Executive Director which includes Finance and Human Resources. The President/CEO is a member of, and reports directly to, the Board of Directors, and serves as chief staff person to support the Board of Directors in carrying out their responsibilities.
